The enrollment process has three steps:
The application is now open for the Spring 2026 cohort. Please fill out the application form before January 20, 2026.
Once your application is received, we will reach out to you by email to schedule your 30 minute interview. If you are accepted into the internship, you will be connected to a supervisor for a team placement interview.
Team supervisors conduct final interviews to confirm REPAIR Cohort and Team Project placement. You will be given all meeting schedule links and confirmation of your enrollment at your team placement interview if you are accepted onto the team.
The REPAIR program is free of cost for interns, and for family participating with interns. Purchasing the physical REPAIR workbook is an optional cost ($20 on amazon), or you can use a blank journal with the free PDF workbook version.
Please reach us at jen@ni2c.org if you cannot find an answer to your question.
You would begin with submitting the REPAIR application for Interns. Shortly thereafter you will be invited to schedule an interview. If and once accepted, you will have a second interview for the team you applied to be a part of. Lastly once that is all done, you're officially in, and the next step is attending an orientation at the start of the semester.
There is not any formal training that has to be done other than the orientation. With that you will briefly meet others in your cohort and meet some of the staff you will be working with.
Most internship teams are virtual with the entirety of the internship taking place remotely via synchronous zoom meetings and asynchronous assignments. There are some internship teams that are hybrid and conduct team meetings virtually via zoom, with hybrid in-person events, opportunities, or client meetings that take place on your local campus or in your local community. Be sure to discuss these options with your team supervisor in your team placement interview.
Also, even fully remote internship teams often have 1 optional hybrid event at the end of the semester to celebrate and showcase accomplishments. This event may be at your campus, or another campus, and may or may not be a realistic travel option for you. If you live 30+ minutes from the end of semester event then you are able to choose the virtual attendance option if you prefer.
This internship is unpaid, but offers hours for academic credits.
The program is open to individuals who have been impacted by adverse childhood experiences, are in recovery, justice-involved individuals, and those seeking personal and professional growth in relevant fields of nonprofits, trauma, and mental health. We welcome applicants who are motivated to make positive changes in their lives.
The REPAIR Internship is a structured program designed to help individuals transition into the mental health field and nonprofit workforce while building life skills and professional experience. It provides hands-on learning, mentorship, and personal development opportunities.
The internship can runs for 3-9 months, depending on the participant's goals. The most typical internship experience includes 120 hours over a 16 week semester, earning 3 undergraduate academic semester credits.
Interns gain experience in stress management, teamwork, communication, problem-solving, and job readiness to help them succeed in nonprofit or mental health fields. Other skills such as grant writing or client intake vary depending on the team project assignment.
The program is free for interns.
Interns should be committed to personal growth, open to learning, and able to follow program guidelines. A comfort with active group participation and sharing is also helpful, as REPAIR and project teams are very experiential and interactive. To receive academic credit for internship participation, students should be enrolled in an undergraduate degree program in a major leading to a career in the mental health field such as human services, psychology, or public health.
