The enrollment process has three steps:
Applications are now open for the 2026 Summer and Fall cohorts.
Soon after submitting your application, you will receive an email invitation to schedule a series of two 30-minute interviews in order to learn more about what to expect, have your questions about the internship answered, and to see if this internship experience is a good fit. If you are invited to enroll in the internship after your 2nd interview you will move forward to onboarding
If you are accepted into the internship, soon after your final interview you will have a 30 minute onboarding meeting with your direct supervisor. In this onboarding meeting you will receive a detailed schedule with links to all scheduled zoom sessions for the semester, as well as other tech set up steps such as gaining access to your professional email address, slack channels, required google drives, or logins to social accounts you will be managing during your internship.
The REPAIR program is free of cost for interns, and for family participating with interns. Purchasing the physical REPAIR workbook is an optional cost ($20 on amazon), or you can use a blank journal with the free PDF workbook version.
Please reach us at jen@ni2c.org if you cannot find an answer to your question.
You would begin with submitting the application for your preferred internship experience. Shortly thereafter you will be invited to schedule a series of two interviews. If and once accepted, you will schedule an onboarding call with the supervisor for the team you applied to be a part of. Lastly once that is all done, you're officially in, and the next step is attending an orientation at the start of the semester.
Most internship teams are virtual with the entirety of the internship taking place remotely via synchronous zoom meetings and asynchronous assignments. There are some internship teams that are hybrid and conduct team meetings virtually via zoom, with hybrid in-person events, opportunities, or client meetings that take place on your local campus or in your local community. Be sure to discuss these options with your team supervisor in your team placement interview.
This internship is unpaid, but offers hours for academic credits.
The program is open to individuals who have been impacted by adverse childhood experiences, are in recovery, justice-involved individuals, and those seeking personal and professional growth in relevant fields of nonprofits, trauma, and mental health. We welcome applicants who are motivated to make positive changes in their lives.
The REPAIR Internship is a structured program designed to help individuals transition into the mental health field and nonprofit workforce while building life skills and professional experience. It provides hands-on learning, mentorship, and personal development opportunities.
The internship can runs for 3-9 months, depending on the participant's goals. The most typical internship experience includes 120 or 150 hours over a 16 week semester, earning 3 undergraduate academic semester credits.
Interns gain experience in stress management, teamwork, communication, problem-solving, and job readiness to help them succeed in nonprofit or mental health fields. Other skills such as grant writing or client intake vary depending on the team project assignment.
The program is free for interns.
Interns should be committed to personal growth, open to learning, and able to follow program guidelines. A comfort with active group participation and sharing is also helpful, as REPAIR and project teams are very experiential and interactive. To receive academic credit for internship participation, students should be enrolled in an undergraduate degree program in a major leading to a career in the mental health field such as human services, psychology, or public health.
